Augusta National — Every April Since 1934

The Masters Tournament

About

The Masters is one of the most famous golf tournaments in the world. It is held every April at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. I think it is the coolest major in golf because it is always at the same course and you can really see the players get to know the holes over the years. The course is known for its beautiful scenery including tons of flowers and very well kept grass.

The winner of The Masters gets to wear the green jacket which is basically the most recognized trophy in golf. You can learn more about the tournament on the official Masters website. The tournament has been going on since 1934 and was started by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. Some of the best golfers ever have won here including Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer.

Famous Masters Winners

Tiger Woods has won The Masters 5 times which is pretty incredible. His first win was in 1997 when he was only 21 years old and he won by 12 strokes. Jack Nicklaus holds the record with 6 wins total. His last one was in 1986 when he was 46 years old which is still one of the greatest moments in golf history. More recently Scottie Scheffler has been dominating the tournament and has become one of the best players in the world.

Why I Like The Masters

"The Masters is the one tournament every golfer dreams of winning. There's nothing like walking up 18 on Sunday with a chance to put on the green jacket." — Phil Mickelson

I think what makes The Masters different from other tournaments is how much tradition is involved. They have the same ceremonies every year like the Champions Dinner where the winner from last year picks the menu. The crowd is also really quiet and respectful compared to other sports events. It just feels like a really big deal every time it comes around and even people who don't watch golf usually tune in for the weekend.
